Bangkok: Commemorative coins marking the 100th anniversary of the death of King Rama VI and the birth of Princess Phetcharat will be available for purchase on August 31, 2026. The Treasury Department has announced plans to sell and exchange these coins, commemorating significant milestones in Thai history.
According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Ekniti Nitithanprapha disclosed that the Treasury Department has produced these coins to honor the legacy of His Majesty King Vajiravudh (Rama VI). King Rama VI is remembered for his substantial contributions to national development, particularly in governance, education, arts, and culture. His initiatives, such as the establishment of the Wild Tiger Corps and the Boy Scouts, played a vital role in nurturing discipline and patriotism among Thai youth. The coins also serve to commemorate His Majesty's death on November 25, 2025.
Three types of commemorative coins have been produced for this occasion. The gold coin, with a denomination of 30,000 baht, is made of 99% gold, weighs 15 grams, and has a diameter of 26 mm. It is priced at 99,999 baht, with a limited production of no more than 800 coins. The polished silver coin, with a denomination of 1,000 baht, is made of 92.5% silver, weighs 22 grams, and has a diameter of 35 mm, priced at 3,000 baht, with a production limit of 5,000 coins. The ordinary white metal coin, made of a copper-nickel alloy, has a denomination of 20 baht, weighs 15 grams, and has a diameter of 32 mm, available for exchange at 20 baht per coin, with a limit of 250,000 coins.
The gold coin features a portrait of King Rama VI on the obverse side, while the reverse bears the emblem commemorating the 100th anniversary of his passing. The polished silver and ordinary white metal coins share similar designs, with varying inscriptions for their respective denominations.
Mr. Akkharut Sonthayanon, Director-General of the Treasury Department, announced the production of commemorative coins for the 100th birthday anniversary of Her Royal Highness Princess Phetcharatana Rajsuda. The coins honor her contributions to the nation, including her support for Vajiravudh College, Vajira Hospital Foundation, and her patronage of the National Scout Association. The commemorative coin for Princess Phetcharat is made of a copper-nickel alloy, with a face value of 20 baht, and a production limit of 250,000 coins.
The coin dedicated to Princess Phetcharat features her portrait on the obverse side, while the reverse displays the emblem commemorating her 100th birthday. The coins can be exchanged starting August 31, 2026, at various locations, including the Currency Management Division in Pathum Thani, coin exchange units in Bangkok, and Treasury Department offices nationwide. Online orders can be placed via the Treasury Department's website or the TRD e-Commerce application. Buyers will be responsible for shipping costs for online purchases.
