Commerce Ministry Clarifies ?100 Durian Deal: Small-Scale “Sub-Grade” Promo by Top Influencer

Bangkok: The Ministry of Commerce has addressed the buzz surrounding durians being sold for just 100 THB per fruit, clarifying that the price point is a specific promotion led by a famous influencer to boost domestic consumption of smaller, "sub-grade" crops.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Kornnit Nonjui, Deputy Spokesperson for the Ministry of Commerce, stated that the ministry is aggressively expanding distribution channels for Thai fruit. By partnering with influencers for Live Commerce directly from orchards, the ministry aims to create faster market opportunities for farmers while responding to this year's increased harvest. This strategy aligns with modern consumer behavior, prioritizing convenience and direct traceability to the source.

Regarding the 100 THB durian, the ministry noted that this is a special promotional campaign by online mogul "Pimrypie."

The initiative targets sub-grade and small-sized durians that, while failing to meet export aesthetic standards due to irregular shapes, remain high-quality and ripe. By creating a dedicated marketplace for these domestic-grade crops, the program provides vital support to farmers and prevents surplus waste.

The ministry emphasized that while the 100 THB price captures headlines, premium and export-grade durians continue to be sold alongside these promotions to ensure a healthy price range for the entire agricultural sector.
