Constitutional Court President Admits Working Under Pressure, But Adheres to Principles of Fairness

The President of the Constitutional Court believes that the 'case of dissolving the Move Forward Party and PM Tang Phichit' will be resolved before September. He admitted that he worked under pressure, but everything was based on fairness. He is not worried and will not respond to the Move Forward Party because they are not in conflict. As for whether or not it violated the court order, he will discuss it with the panel of judges first. Mr. Nakarin Mektrairat, President of the Constitutional Court, said about the meeting of the Constitutional Court judges on Wednesday, July 3, that there will be a consideration of the case of Mr. Settha Thavisin, Prime Minister, in the case of appointing Mr. Pichit Chuenban as Minister to the Prime Minister's Office and the case of dissolving the Move Forward Party. In terms of considering the evidence and evidence submitted by the Election Commission and the Move Forward Party to the court before allowing the parties to inspect the documents on July 9. As for whether ther e is anything troubling you, I confirm that there is nothing troubling you and I am considering it as normal. As for whether to open the witness examination or not, Mr. Nakarin asked for a discussion with the investigation committee. If he said that he would open the examination, it would interfere with the independence of each judge. However, he confirmed that both cases will be completed before September, but he could not answer which case will be completed first. Mr. Nakarin admitted that the court works under pressure, both pressure from himself and pressure from society from the court, which is understandable because it is an important case. But everything is based on fairness, appropriateness, and explanation until all doubts are gone before making a decision. The decision of the Constitutional Court is a decision of the panel which is independent, not a decision by a single person. From now on, he will discuss with the panel that in addition to disclosing the results of the panel voting, the names of the majority and minority judges will also be included. As for the case of the Move Forward Party, the opposing party has already come out to move twice. Will there be any problems? Mr. Nakarin said that it will have to be considered by the panel. Personally, he thinks there won't be any. When asked again whether the Move Forward Party's press conference would be considered a violation of the court's order to stop moving, Mr. Nakarin said that it was the court's advice and warning. It has to be considered appropriate and reasonable. He emphasized that the court is not a conflicting party. As a member of the judiciary, he would not respond. As for whether or not he can come out to explain something, that is up to the panel to consider. "The media thinks it can be done or not. A free society is like this. Thai society has a fair amount of rights and freedoms. They proceed in what they see as appropriate. I confirm that the court is not a party to the conflict, so the court will not respond to these matters," said Mr. Nakarin. Source: Thai News Agency
