Bangkok: The issue of corruption in local government exams has taken center stage as concerns grow over its impact on aspirants hoping to enter public service. The call for a thorough investigation into the matter was made during a recent House of Representatives meeting, highlighting the urgency of addressing this pervasive problem.

According to Thai News Agency, Juri Numkaew, a Democrat Party MP from Songkhla, expressed deep concern over the bribery scandal, which reportedly involves 4-5 billion baht and has affected numerous candidates. Speaking at the meeting chaired by Speaker Sophon Saram, Mr. Juri emphasized the need to uncover the root cause of the corruption, which he stated is not a new issue but has persisted for a long time. The recent crackdown has exposed the extent of the financial damage and underscored the government's failure to prevent such widespread cheating.

"This is utterly shattering the hopes and dreams of children from humble backgrounds who have no money or connections. They only have good intentions and hopes of becoming civil servants," Mr. Juri remarked. He illustrated the plight of candidates who have diligently prepared for the exams, some taking them multiple times, only to face a rigged system.

Mr. Juri urged relevant authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the network behind the scheme. He stressed that the corruption likely extends beyond brokers and may involve insiders who are complicit in the scandal. He called for the protection of those who have honestly passed the exams, ensuring their efforts are not in vain. The investigation should aim to preserve the rights of these individuals, acknowledging their hard work and dedication.
