Courageous Thai Police Officer Completes Mission Despite Injury

Bangkok: Admiration for the courageous police officer, “New Inspector,” who remained on duty despite being injured. Admiration for the courageous police officer, “Sergeant Mai,” who, despite being injured, continued his life-saving mission, successfully transporting an injured soldier and his heart for organ transplant.

According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Gen. Samran Nualma, Deputy Commissioner General of the Royal Thai Police and Director of the Traffic Management Center, praised the performance of Pol. Lt. Col. Peerawut Mai-ong, a traffic police inspector under the Royal Project, and his team of traffic police officers. He stated that their actions reflected a spirit of sacrifice and true dedication to public safety. Even after being injured while assisting the public, they persevered in their crucial mission to save lives until its completion.

The incident began when traffic police officers from the Royal Project were notified of a private vehicle with faulty brakes parked near the entrance of Soi Rama VI-31. Police Lieutenant Colonel Peerawut led a team to investigate and assist immediately. During the operation, the lug nut wrench detached from its socket and struck the driver in the face with force, causing injury.

After receiving first aid, instead of going to the hospital for stitches and resting, Sergeant Peerawut chose to immediately return to duty on a pre-planned, urgent humanitarian mission. The minor cut was insignificant compared to the monumental task of a brave soldier sacrificing for the nation. His first mission was to facilitate traffic to support the transport of the injured soldier from the front lines to Phramongkutklao Hospital. The traffic control team from the Royal Project opened a route from PTT Wang Noi and the Royal Mint, ensuring the soldier reached his destination quickly and safely.

Following a critical “life-saving” mission, the 151st heart was transported from Don Mueang Airport to Chulalongkorn Hospital. Racing against time and heavy traffic, the operation was successfully completed in just 16 minutes, delivering the heart to the medical team just in time and narrowly saving the patient’s life.

Pol. Gen. Samran stated that this incident clearly reflects that traffic police officers under the Royal Project do not merely perform their duties by managing traffic or assisting broken-down vehicles on the roadside, but also work with the heart of a giver, sacrificing even their own safety and physical well-being to protect the lives of the public and their colleagues.

The actions of Police Lieutenant Colonel Peerawut Mai-ong exemplify a police officer’s unwavering commitment to duty with a noble conscience. He reflects the image of Thai police officers that the public can rely on in all situations, and is another story that reinforces the idea that “police” are those who stand by the people when they need help most.
