Bangkok:The court has denied bail for Achariya Ruangratanapong, who has been taken into custody by the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau on charges of fraud against the public, violation of the Computer Crime Act, money laundering, and illegal gambling on boxing matches. Correctional officers have escorted him to Bangkok Special Prison.
According to Thai News Agency, police from the Technology Crime Investigation Bureau 1 (TCIB 1) transferred Mr. Achariya, president of the Crime Victims Assistance Association, from Thung Song Hong Police Station to be remanded in custody. Although he showed no signs of stress while being taken to the police car, Mr. Achariya addressed reporters' inquiries about the 191 million baht in his personal bank account from 2024-2025, asserting that he could clarify all issues. He denied using donated funds for boxing gambling and speculated that he might be framed, suggesting a directive against him.
Before his custody, Mr. Achariya's wife, lawyer, and Colonel Dr. Thawatchai Kanjanarin, a former surgeon at Phramongkutklao Hospital, visited him. Dr. Thawatchai contested the authenticity of a LINE chat implicating Mr. Achariya, stating it was fake and inconsistent with the three LINE accounts Mr. Achariya has used in the five years he has known him. Dr. Thawatchai questioned the plausibility of someone using their own name and picture for illegal transactions and called for an investigation into potential forgery.
The Criminal Court's decision to reject Mr. Achariya's bail application resulted in his transfer to Bangkok Special Prison by correctional officers.
