CPRAM and Surat Thani Residents Release Millions of Blue Crab Larvae to Boost Food Security

Surat thani: CPRAM, in collaboration with local residents of Surat Thani, has released over 1.8 million blue crab larvae back into the sea for the 14th consecutive year, aiming to create sustainable food security.

According to Thai News Agency, this initiative is led by Mr. Wiset Wisitwinyu, Managing Director of CPRAM Co., Ltd., a leader in the ready-to-eat food industry. Together with Mr. Bandal Sathirachaval, Deputy Governor of Surat Thani Province, government officials, and local residents, they have released 200,000 young blue crab larvae at Koh Set, Phumriang Subdistrict, Chaiya District, Surat Thani Province.

This effort is a part of the "Sustainable Blue Crab Project for Thai Seas," which seeks to restore ecosystem balance and increase the blue crab population, a species of great economic significance. Now in its 14th year, the project has successfully released over 1.8 million blue crabs into the sea. The event also included a cleanup initiative on Koh Set, a biodiverse area that serves as a natural nursery for aquatic life.

Mr. Bandal Sathirachaval emphasized the importance of blue crabs as a crucial resource for local fishermen and their role in the coastal ecosystem. The joint release of blue crab larvae is a vital step in maintaining the balance and sustainability of Ban Don Bay, as well as supporting the local economy over the long term. This initiative ensures that Surat Thani Province's natural resources remain abundant and continue to benefit the Thai sea.
