In Buri District: A husband set fire to his wife’s house, resulting in the death of his 79-year-old mother-in-law. The wife survived as she was not at home during the incident.
According to Thai News Agency, fire engines from the Tambon Namtan Administrative Organization and local administrative organizations responded to the blaze. They worked to contain the fire that engulfed a half-concrete, half-wooden house situated in a narrow alley in Sing Buri Province. Despite their efforts, the officers couldn’t rescue the elderly woman trapped inside in time. It took approximately half an hour to control the fire.
The house owner, Ms. Anchalee, 38, revealed that the deceased was her mother, who was hard of hearing. She alleged that the arsonist was her husband, Mr. Anek, with whom she had been married for three years. The couple had no children together, but recent arguments had strained their relationship, particularly concerning Mr. Anek’s stepchild. Ms. Anchalee recounted that Mr. Anek had a hot temper and bec
ame increasingly agitated during their disputes.
Ms. Anchalee reported a significant altercation on April 15, during which Mr. Anek physically assaulted her and threatened to burn down the house. Fearing for her safety, Ms. Anchalee sought refuge at a friend’s house, leaving her elderly mother alone. She was alerted to the fire by a neighbor, who informed her that Mr. Anek was seen leaving the vicinity before the blaze started.
Neighbors corroborated Ms. Anchalee’s claims, stating they frequently heard Mr. Anek threatening to set fire to the house. Witnesses saw him visiting the property with a friend before the fire erupted. As he departed, Mr. Anek reportedly apologized by saying, “Darling, I’m sorry,” and then drove away. Police are actively searching for leads to locate Mr. Anek and initiate legal proceedings.
