Bannang sata: Chaos erupted in Bannang Sata, Yala, when criminals set fire to tires, scattered caltrops, and destroyed road construction vehicles, causing significant disruption and damage to both government and private property.

According to Thai News Agency, the incidents unfolded around 2:30 AM on September 20, 2026, along Highway 410 near Ban Pong Yamu, Bannang Sata Subdistrict. The attacks targeted multiple locations, resulting in the destruction of CCTV cameras and the burning of heavy machinery belonging to Chinworayala Construction Company Limited, including a backhoe and two road rollers. Local residents' vehicles were also set on fire, adding to the chaos.

Upon receiving reports of the incidents, Mr. Kongsakul Chantarat, Governor of Yala Province, along with administrative officials, military personnel, and police, promptly arrived at the scene to assess the damage. They convened a meeting with relevant agencies to formulate and implement enhanced security measures.

Mr. Kongsakul reported that the attacks primarily targeted vehicles and machinery involved in a government project to construct a four-lane road from Bannang Sata to Betong. This project aims to improve regional infrastructure and public safety. In response to the attacks, local authorities have intensified security efforts by deploying patrols and establishing checkpoints.

Initial preventative measures include instructing all parties to park heavy machinery in secure locations, such as the Subdistrict Administrative Organization or near mosques. The contractor is also required to employ private security personnel to monitor the construction site, while coordinated efforts with security forces will ensure stringent surveillance along the construction route.

The Governor stressed the critical role of public participation in maintaining security and reducing violence. He urged local residents to report any suspicious activities, emphasizing that while the damage may not directly affect private property, the project ultimately serves the community's benefit. Collaborative efforts between the public and authorities are essential to fostering lasting peace and security in the area.
