Bangkok: Statistics from the "7 Dangerous Days" of the Songkran festival reveal that over the three days from April 10-12, there were a total of 581 accidents nationwide, leading to 486 injuries and 95 deaths.
According to Thai News Agency, the statistics highlight the severity of road incidents during the Songkran festival, with a significant number of accidents and casualties recorded. Notably, among those involved in the accidents were seven foreign tourists, though fortunately, none of these incidents resulted in fatalities.
Ms. Lalida Periswiwatana, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, stated that the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, in conjunction with the Tourist Police Division, has enhanced security measures for tourists across all key areas. The government is coordinating with relevant agencies and urging both the public and tourists to drive cautiously, emphasizing the importance of the "don't drink and drive" principle. The aim is to ensure that the Songkran festival remains a safe and enjoyable experience for all.
