Nonthaburi: A 53-year-old woman transported her deceased 93-year-old mother’s body from Ratchaburi Province to Wat Rat Prakong Tham in Nonthaburi Province for a cremation ceremony, fulfilling her mother’s last wishes under the “Last Home Project.”
According to Thai News Agency, the daughter took her mother’s body in a sedan from Ban Pong District to the temple, where Phra Kittiwachirathada, the abbot of Wat Rat Prakong Tham, led the funeral rite and offering of robes to four monks before the cremation. The daughter shared that her mother had requested her body be brought to this temple for free cremation services, including a free coffin and religious ceremonies, as a way to avoid being a financial burden.
The daughter recounted tearfully how her mother had bought the sedan when she was working, and it was significant for her to have her mother travel in it one last time. The daughter, being the only child and facing financial constraints, expressed gratitude for the temple’s services, which allowed her to honor her mother’s wishes without incurring expenses.
The temple treasurer revealed that the daughter had contacted the temple prior to her mother’s passing for advice and later informed them of the death. Although the temple offered to arrange transport for the body, the daughter insisted on bringing her mother herself.
The temple continues its “Last Home Project,” inviting those who cannot perform religious ceremonies for the deceased to donate, as Wat Rat Prakong Tham assists with such ceremonies daily.
