DDPM Issues Urgent Cell Broadcast Warning for Southern Thailand Flooding

Bangkok: The Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation (DDPM) has issued a Cell Broadcast warning alerting residents in several southern provinces of Thailand about impending heavy rain and potential flooding.

According to Thai News Agency, the warning highlights that water levels in Khlong Tha Dee and Khlong Nakhon Noi have already overflowed their banks, impacting areas along the canal and low-lying regions in Lansaka and Mueang Districts of Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. Residents are urged to relocate belongings and vehicles to higher ground, safeguard valuables and documents, and stay vigilant against electric shock.

In Trang Province, heavy rain is anticipated in Muang, Huai Yot, and Ratsada districts, with ongoing precipitation expected. The DDPM cautions against possible flooding and mudslides in areas near canals, rivers, and hillsides. Necessary precautions include moving items and vehicles to elevated areas and ensuring the safety of vulnerable groups.

Phatthalung Province is also experiencing significant rainfall in districts like Pa Phayom, Sri Banphot, and Khao Chaison. The region should prepare for potential flooding and mudslides, securing valuables and maintaining caution against electric hazards.

Nakhon Si Thammarat Province faces warnings of continued heavy rain in Phipun, Chawang, Thung Song, and Chang Klang districts. Residents should remain alert to the risk of flooding and mudslides, especially in low-lying and hillside areas.

In Songkhla Province, Mueang, Sathing Phra, and Krasae Sin districts are expected to receive heavy rain. Similar warnings are issued for Ranot District, with recommendations for precautionary measures to protect against flooding and mudslides.

Moreover, the Tha Nae spillway overflow poses a risk for flooding in low-lying areas of Khuan Khanun District, potentially affecting Highway 43 at the Pho Thong intersection. Water levels are expected to rise above knee height, necessitating immediate action to protect property and ensure safety.
