Death Toll Rises to 11 in South Korea Factory Fire

Daejeon: The death toll from a massive fire at a car parts factory in central South Korea's Daejeon has risen to 11.

According to Thai News Agency, rescue workers found the 11th body amidst the charred rubble of the factory around noon Saturday. Three people remain missing, and at least 59 were injured, including two firefighters. The report stated that 170 employees were working inside the factory when the fire was reported at approximately 1:17 PM (or 11:17 AM Friday, Thailand time).

Initially, firefighters were unable to enter the building due to concerns that the structure might collapse. Furthermore, the firefighting operation was complicated by the presence of 200 kilograms of sodium metal inside the building, which could explode if not handled properly. However, officials stated that the fire was completely brought under control after approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes of operation.

Firefighters are currently using heavy machinery to move debris in order to continue the search for those who remain missing. The cause of the fire is still unclear, but the flames spread rapidly, and witnesses reported hearing an explosion.

President Lee Jae-myung has ordered the full mobilization of personnel and equipment to control the situation and support rescue operations.
