Democrat Party Celebrates 80th Anniversary with Year-Long Activities

Bangkok: The Democrat Party commemorated its 80th anniversary with a merit-making ceremony held at its headquarters.

According to Thai News Agency, the ceremony encompassed religious rituals from Islam, Hinduism, and Buddhism, reflecting the party's commitment to inclusivity. Distinguished guests included members from the Bhumjaithai Party and Palang Pracharath Party, who presented floral tributes. Souvenirs, such as a book of line drawings by Chuan Leekpai and amulets, were distributed to attendees.

Mr. Abhisit, a prominent party figure, emphasized that the anniversary marks a milestone for future efforts under the theme "80 Years of the Democrat Party: A New Political Institution for All." Throughout the year, the party plans to engage the public through various initiatives. In May, the "Blue House" will be revitalized to oversee governmental activities using technology. In June, the "Blue Academy" will be established to train future politicians, and in July, the "Blue Camp" will host activities for youth and members. The party's nationwide tour in August aims to address inequality.

In September, the Democrat Party will intensify its scrutiny of the budget bill using technological tools. October will witness historic explorations of Thai politics, followed by a reunion event in November. The Liberal International convention will be hosted in December, highlighting human rights issues.

Looking ahead to 2027, the party plans to align with global technological advancements and environmental agendas, coinciding with the World Economic Forum in February. Their commitment to a green economy will culminate in a March assembly, uniting members and citizens to shape the nation's future.

Mr. Abhisit also inaugurated the "Good Products" shop, featuring a range of souvenirs, by having Mr. Juri Numkaew, an MP and deputy leader, launch the initiative. These efforts reflect the party's dedication to engaging the public and promoting its values on its 80th anniversary.
