Bangkok:The Democrat Party has called on the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) to provide clarity regarding the incomplete operational status of drainage tunnels in the city, which have been reported to be only 30-50% functional.

According to the Thai News Agency, the Democrat Party's spokesperson, Mr. Pongsakorn Kwanmuang, expressed concerns at a press conference about the recent prolonged waterlogging in Bangkok following heavy rainfall. He questioned the effectiveness of the drainage systems, particularly the Khlong Saen Saep tunnel and the Phra Khanong floodgate, which are supposed to prevent flooding in key areas.

Mr. Pongsakorn highlighted that the Khlong Saen Saep tunnel, capable of handling 60 cubic meters of water per second, is not being utilized to its full potential, with current operation only at 50-60% capacity. He raised questions about the functionality of the The spokesperson also pointed out similar issues with the Phra Khanong sluice gate, which is reportedly operating at just 30-50% of its full capacity of 173 cubic meters per second. He demanded answers from the BMA regarding the operational status of the water pumps at this site.

Mr. Pongsakorn stressed the importance of transparency, urging the BMA to address any equipment failures and legal obstacles openly to prevent future flooding. He emphasized that the people of Bangkok deserve to know the truth about the situation and what measures will be taken to resolve these issues.
