Bangkok: The Democrat Party leader has expressed gratitude for the recent poll results, viewing them as a source of encouragement. He emphasized the necessity of working diligently against himself and the constraints of time, highlighting two key policy approaches: fostering an honest country and nurturing a growing economy. In Bangkok, Sakolthee, who is in competition with Ekanat, remains untroubled and acknowledges the challenges ahead.
According to Thai News Agency, Democrat Party Leader Abhisit Vejjajiva commented on the public opinion survey results that indicate his party’s improved ratings. He expressed appreciation to the public but noted the fluctuating nature of such metrics. Abhisit emphasized the importance of self-competition and managing time efficiently, given the extensive work required on policy and candidate matters. He stated, “The polls are encouraging, but there’s a lot of hard work ahead.”
Abhisit highlighted two primary issues for the upcoming election. He stressed the importance of creating an honest country, without which various societal, political, and economic problems would persist. He also underlined the need to restore the Thai economy to its former growth levels, stating that without economic growth, addressing other issues would be challenging. He argued that a strong economy is essential for developing a robust welfare system.
On the topic of economic stimulus policies, Abhisit mentioned that such policies should be tailored to the situation, although they are not the principal solution for the nation’s future. He noted that while some stimulus efforts have been successful, others have been temporary fixes, cautioning that reliance on these measures could strain the fiscal situation.
Addressing the Bangkok MP election, Abhisit refrained from discussing the support base but emphasized the importance of offering policies relevant to Bangkok residents. He recognized the competitive nature of politics and expressed confidence in Sakolthee’s ability to navigate the challenges in Bangkok. He also noted the need for friendly competition without resorting to unfair tactics.
Regarding the possibility of a political emergency leading to an early dissolution of Parliament, Abhisit stated that the Democrat Party must be prepared, acknowledging that it would be demanding but necessary. He affirmed that political parties must operate at full capacity in such scenarios.
When questioned about concerns regarding honest politics and the potential misuse of funds, Abhisit expressed reduced concern, citing increased public resistance to injustice. He shared that interactions with various individuals have reinforced his belief that there is growing support for honest politics.
