Dental Benefits Expanded for Insured Individuals with Increased Coverage Limits

Bangkok: Good news for insured individuals as the government has announced significant enhancements to dental benefits under the social security system, effective May 1, 2026. Insured individuals will see increased treatment limits, especially for wisdom tooth extraction, removable dentures, and non-removable dentures with surgical fees.

According to Thai News Agency, Ms. Ploytale Laksmisangchan, Deputy Spokesperson for the Prime Minister's Office, emphasized the government's commitment to improving the quality of life for insured persons by reducing healthcare costs and expanding access to comprehensive medical services. The Ministry of Labour has tasked the Social Security Office with developing dental benefits for those insured under Sections 33 and 39.

The revamped benefits include a reimbursement of up to 2,500 baht per wisdom tooth extraction, with coverage extended to individuals who have contributed for at least three months within a 15-month period prior to the service date. Those who have left their jobs will continue to receive coverage for up to six months.

From May 1, 2026, the dental benefits will encompass several key areas:

1. Tooth Extraction/Filling/Scaling: The coverage limit for services at private hospitals or clinics remains at 900 baht per year. Public hospitals will expand their procedures to include root planing and bone trimming.

2. Wisdom Tooth Extraction: The new benefit includes a separate credit limit with reimbursement up to 1,500 baht for uncomplicated surgeries and 2,500 baht for complex surgical cases. Government hospitals with agreements will cover actual expenses according to standard rates.

3. Removable Dentures: Coverage has increased to between 1,500 and 6,000 baht, depending on the number and type of teeth, with an additional 900 baht per denture repair.

4. Non-Removable Dentures and Dental Implants: New benefits have been introduced for those who have lost all their teeth. Surgery costs will be covered up to 17,500 baht, and a dental implant package costs 3,300 baht, including follow-up treatments.

Insured individuals using services outside of their contracted medical facilities will need to pay upfront and apply for a refund through the e-Self Service system or at any Social Security Office nationwide.
