Bangkok: The Department of Energy Business has implemented a strict regulation mandating oil traders under Section 7 to provide daily updates on stock levels, prices, and refining costs. Mr. Wutthithat Tantives, Deputy Director-General of the Department, announced that these measures are part of an effort to enhance the energy regulation system. The Minister of Energy recently signed a ministerial announcement requiring oil traders to display daily prices and remaining stock levels at all refineries and depots nationwide, with this information to be reported to the government by 6:00 PM each day.
According to Thai News Agency, refineries are also required to report refining costs every Friday and must adhere to selling oil at prices not exceeding those recommended by the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO). This is intended to prevent price gouging amid ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. Throughout the period from March 1-24, 2026, diesel production was 81.51 million liters per day, while sales and exports reached 86.18 million liters per day. The gasoline production capacity was 37.12 million liters per day, which met the sales demand of 35.10 million liters per day.
The Department has directed all 92 fuel depots nationwide to provide detailed information on fuel receipts and disbursements, including destinations and vehicle registration numbers. This data is to be compiled for the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) and security agencies for joint investigations to prevent leakage or suspicious activity in the trading system.
To enhance public convenience, the Department of Energy Business is expediting the development of the "Fuel Now" application. This app will show the fuel sales status at each gas station, indicating availability or shortages. The Department is working with provincial energy offices and gas station owners to ensure real-time updates are provided. Coordination is also underway with the Digital Government Agency (DGA) to integrate this information with the government's application. Additionally, the "Fuel DM" system is being utilized to trace fuel transportation history from early February, aiming to increase transparency and foster long-term consumer confidence.
