Department of Rural Roads Enforces Strict Energy Conservation Measures Amid Middle East Tensions

Bangkok: The Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR) has mandated its agencies to strictly monitor energy usage.

According to Thai News Agency, the Director-General of the Department of Rural Roads, Mr. Pichit Hunsiri, has instructed all affiliated agencies nationwide to adhere to the government's energy conservation measures. This directive was issued during the Department of Rural Roads' senior management meeting for March 2026, held at the Rural Roads Office 5 in Nakhon Ratchasima.

Mr. Hunsiri emphasized that all units, including 18 Regional Rural Roads Offices, 76 provincial rural road districts, and rural road maintenance divisions, must follow the government's guidelines due to geopolitical tensions in the Middle East. As a major global source of energy production and transportation, the government is focused on managing the country's energy usage effectively.

To address the volatile global energy situation, all affiliated agencies are urged to promote energy conservation measures. These include adjusting air conditioning temperatures to 26-27 degrees Celsius, wearing short-sleeved shirts, reducing electricity consumption in office buildings, and promoting the use of electronic systems over paper documents. Online meetings and work-from-home arrangements are also encouraged.

Additionally, the policy advises carpooling, walking to the office for those in agency housing, and suspending overseas study trips unless urgently needed. The Mechanical and Communications Division is tasked with checking fuel reserves and ensuring regular inspections of government machinery and vehicles to promote energy-efficient practices.
