Deputy Prime Minister Celebrates Songkran in Silom with LGBTQ+ Parade

Bangkok: Yotchanan enjoyed playing in the Songkran water festival in Silom and viewed the overall experience as going well.

According to Thai News Agency, Yotchanan celebrated Songkran in Silom, noting that the overall event went well despite the energy crisis. He believes the Thai smile is a unique characteristic of Songkran, unlike any other nation's.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation, Yotsanun Wongsawat, along with Pheu Thai Party MPs, participated in Songkran water festivities on Silom Road and also joined the parade of international LGBTQ+ groups along Silom Road.

Mr. Yotsanan said that he had been visiting various locations over the past two to three days and today he came to celebrate Songkran in Bangkok. He said the atmosphere was bright and refreshing, and he wanted to share the happiness with everyone. He urged everyone to take care of themselves during the Songkran festival and to be ready to start anew with good things. He also took the opportunity to participate in the water festivities and to listen to everyone's feedback. He welcomed any suggestions. Regarding the Songkran atmosphere during this period, he felt it was well-organized, especially considering the need to conserve energy. He believes the responsible agencies have done a good job.

When asked about the Silom Songkran festival, which incorporates LGBTQ+ aspects and which the Pheu Thai Party has consistently supported, Mr. Sachanan said that he believes diversity is something that should be promoted, and that the Silom model should be expanded to other areas. He explained that if similar events are held, the economy in those areas flourishes, and he considers it a good example.

When asked about the controversy surrounding neighboring countries claiming ownership of Thailand's Songkran festival, and what he considered to be Thailand's unique characteristic that no other nation can compare to, Mr. Yoschanan stated that it is the smile and the various ways of celebrating. He added that the fact that tourists visit Thailand for Songkran already confirms that this festival brings happiness to Thai people and people around the world.
