Bangkok: It marks the 21st anniversary of the Dong Phaya Yen-Khao Yai forest complex being inscribed as a UNESCO World Natural Heritage Site. The Department of National Parks is currently conducting a Strategic Environmental Assessment to determine the direction of area management. One area of concern is the Huai Saton Reservoir project within Ta Phraya National Park.

According to Thai News Agency, the assessment aims to balance development needs with the preservation of the forest's ecological value. The Dong Phaya Yen-Khao Yai forest complex is a critical habitat for numerous species and serves as a vital ecological corridor. The Huai Saton Reservoir project poses potential risks to the biodiversity and sustainability of the area, sparking discussions about its impact on the forest's integrity.

The Department of National Parks is consulting with stakeholders to ensure that any development aligns with conservation goals.
