Bangkok: The Director-General of the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) is accelerating the inquiry into the Bangkok Special Prison scandal, focusing on three main issues. He acknowledged a lack of information about “Boss Kant The Icon” but pledged to expedite the investigation.
According to Thai News Agency, Pol. Lt. Col. Yutthana Praedam, Director-General of the DSI, has tasked the Security Crime Division with investigating whether the Bangkok Remand Prison case qualifies as a special case. The investigation will address three primary concerns: identifying all facts about the incident, determining which officers facilitated the operation, and assessing the charges against foreign inmates linked to the case. The probe will include an analysis of financial flows associated with the criminal activities.
The Director-General mentioned that the DSI only recently accepted the Boss Kant Di-Ikon case as a special case. As of now, there is no additional information available beyond what has been reported.
The fact-finding committee, guided by the Minister of Justice, has issued procedures for investigating the presence of prohibited items in prisons, as per Sections 72 and 73 of the Corrections Act B.E. 2560 (2017). Under the leadership of Mr. Manop Chomchuen, the prison commander, measures are being taken to remove prohibited items from the Bangkok Remand Prison. Mr. Yutthana Nakruangsri, Deputy Director-General of the Department of Corrections, has been appointed to oversee the removal of these items, with support from additional personnel from other prisons.
News reports suggest that the investigation committee has also engaged the Immigration Bureau to examine the overseas travel history of Mr. Manop, the former director of the Bangkok Special Prison.
