Bangkok: The Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration has issued a directive to all provincial permanent secretaries across the country, highlighting the critical need to enhance security measures and tighten control over firearms, drugs, and other illegal items.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narucha Khosasilvilai, the Director-General, has initiated "Operation Alleviate Suffering, Promote Well-being, Uphold Peace and Order, Combat Drugs, and Conquer Criminals" to intensify efforts against drug trafficking, firearms offenses, and other illegal activities, aligning with government policy directives. An urgent letter signed by Mr. Khosasilvilai urged all provincial secretaries to implement stricter security protocols, emphasizing the need to control narcotics and illegal items to foster public confidence and safety.
Mr. Khosasilvilai instructed district chiefs to rigorously carry out the operation throughout August and September 2026. The initiative aims to integrate local administrative forces, including district chiefs, sub-district heads, village heads, and members of the Volunteer Defense Corps, to maintain peace and order. Daily patrols and inspections are mandated to monitor and mitigate risk factors that could lead to crime or violence. Special focus is placed on curbing firearms offenses and drug trafficking, with strict law enforcement to be applied without bias, prioritizing the circumstances of each offense to maintain public safety effectively.
Furthermore, the Director-General emphasized the need for continuous monitoring and performance reporting. Provinces are required to report noteworthy events daily through specific LINE groups dedicated to different regions, enabling performance evaluation and ensuring the successful implementation of measures to achieve tangible outcomes.
