Director-General Orders Urgent Preparations for Imminent Natural Disasters

Bangkok: The Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration has issued an urgent order to prepare for floods, storms, and landslides, instructing provinces and districts to be ready to assist the public 24 hours a day. Mr. Narucha Khosasilvilai, Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration, has issued an urgent letter to provinces and districts, urging them to prepare for floods, storms, and landslides during the rainy season. This follows recent natural disasters in several areas, causing damage to lives and property. All areas are instructed to closely monitor the situation and provide timely assistance to affected individuals until the situation subsides.

According to Thai News Agency, the following guidelines were emphasized: Provinces and districts are instructed to closely monitor weather forecasts from the Meteorological Department, as well as disaster situations from the Department of Disaster Prevention and Mitigation and related agencies. They must also warn residents in expected affected areas about the situation and prepare for it, using all available channels to reach the public, including public address systems, village broadcasting towers, and social media. Furthermore, they should continuously disseminate information to the public, urging them to follow official news updates.

The deputy district chief, sub-district head, village head, members of the Volunteer Defense Corps (VDC), Village Security Teams (VSTs), and local volunteers were assigned to promptly assist affected citizens. This included evacuation, rescue efforts, care for vulnerable groups, and maintaining peace, order, and the safety of life and property, so that people could return to normal life as quickly as possible.

The provinces are instructed to expedite the preparation and mobilization of personnel to support disaster relief efforts in affected areas. A list of personnel readily available for deployment should also be compiled to ensure rapid and efficient assistance when incidents occur.

Coordination with government agencies, local administrative organizations, and relevant entities to establish temporary shelters for disaster victims is also required. Ensure that personnel, materials, equipment, and necessary facilities are ready 24 hours a day. Furthermore, coordinate with the private sector and charitable organizations to provide close support with resources to alleviate the suffering of the people.

Once the situation in the area has stabilized, coordinate with local administrative organizations and relevant agencies to expedite a comprehensive assessment of all damages, including the loss of life (such as the deceased, injured, and missing), as well as damage to housing, agricultural land, public utilities, and public services. Then, provide assistance to those affected in accordance with relevant regulations and guidelines as quickly and thoroughly as possible.

The Director-General of the Department of Provincial Administration emphasized that all provinces and districts must be fully prepared and prioritize the safety of people's lives and property. If a disaster occurs in their area, provinces must continuously report the situation and assistance provided to affected citizens to the Department of Provincial Administration until the situation is resolved.
