Udon thani: The Director-General of the Department of Public Works visited the site to expedite the completion of the Udon Thani city gate, ensuring it's ready for the World Horticultural Expo.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Pongnara Yenying, Director-General of the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, along with Mr. Chakraphan Chantharaphoom, Deputy Governor of Udon Thani Province, and Mr. Siam Butyojantho, Director-General of Public Works and Town Planning of Udon Thani Province, inspected the construction site of the city gate arch project located on Thahan Road in front of Prachak Silpakom Camp, Mak Khaeng Subdistrict, Mueang Udon Thani District. They engaged in discussions with project supervisors, contractors, and relevant agencies to assess progress, identify challenges, and determine strategies to accelerate the project's completion according to the plan.
The city gate project, managed by the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, aims to enhance the entrance landscape of Udon Thani, making it distinctive and reflective of the province's identity. The project encompasses the construction of the city gate building, a parking area with a drainage system and manholes, and includes architectural and lighting systems designed to support public use while enhancing the city's image and long-term potential.
Mr. Pongnara Yenying emphasized the importance of monitoring projects closely and instructed all units to integrate their work comprehensively to accelerate construction while maintaining quality standards, structural integrity, and safety at every stage.
The project previously encountered challenges in obtaining necessary permits and making adjustments to construction plans to suit actual site conditions and usage. These issues have now been addressed, and the contractor has prepared a clear plan to expedite construction. Progress monitoring indicates that the project is approximately 72% complete, with increased manpower and improved construction planning aimed at meeting the target for the International Horticultural Exposition in Udon Thani.
The Department of Public Works and Town Planning will continue to monitor the project's advancement until its completion, providing support to resolve any issues to ensure continuous, high-quality construction and timely completion. The Director-General expressed confidence that the completed Udon Thani City Gate will become a significant landmark, reflecting the identity and pride of Udon Thani's residents, and serve as a catalyst for the city's development, tourism, and economic growth, especially with the anticipated influx of visitors for the International Horticultural Exposition.
In addition to the city gate project, the Director-General and his team visited the Nong Khon Kwang Public Park landscape improvement project, which was completed and opened to the public in July 2026. This visit aimed to gather insights on the successful integrated approach employed by the Department of Public Works and Town Planning, Udon Thani Province, the 24th Military Circle, and Udon Thani Municipality in developing a significant green space. This model will serve as a prototype for future infrastructure development and landscape improvement projects, with the ultimate goal of transforming Udon Thani into a livable and sustainable city.
