Sisaket: The government has taken significant steps to support flood victims by establishing a Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Center. This initiative aims to expedite relief efforts across all affected areas, ensuring timely disbursement of relief funds. Government spokespersons, alongside various sectors, have been active in distributing relief bags to those impacted by floods, particularly in the Sisaket Municipality.
According to Thai News Agency, Siripong Angkasakulkiat, spokesperson for the Prime Minister’s Office, visited several communities in Si Sa Ket Province, including Non Ngam, Nong Mu, Nong Bua, Si Samran, and Saphan Khao, to monitor the flooding situation. Relief packages were distributed following the Prime Minister’s directive to establish the Natural Disaster Management Committee (NDMC). This newly formed center, in collaboration with the Natural Disaster Relief Operations Center (NDRCC), chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Sophon Saram, will work with various government agencies to alleviate hardships and expedite financial aid to flood victims.
Ms. Paetongtarn Shinawatra, leader of the Pheu Thai Party, has also been actively involved in assessing the flood situation. She visited Wang Prakat Village in the Pa Khai Subdistrict of Uttaradit Province, an area severely affected by flooding. During her visit, she inspected the damage, provided moral support, and distributed relief bags to the affected residents. She called on the government to accelerate relief efforts, urging a swift survey and aid distribution to the impacted communities.
In Ubon Ratchathani Province, residents of the Tha Ko Pai community are in a race against time to safeguard their belongings from the rising waters of the Mun River. Many have taken refuge under the Seri Prachathipatai Bridge or at the Wat Hat Suan Suk evacuation center, which serves as a temporary shelter. Despite their efforts, residents face challenges such as a shortage of tents, leaving them and their belongings vulnerable. Currently, 12 communities, including 588 families, are affected, necessitating evacuation and immediate assistance.
