Bangkok: DPU's Faculty of Liberal Arts has initiated the first "Empowering Potential Language Competition," offering a platform for high school students from across the nation to exhibit their language skills in English, Chinese, Japanese, and Korean. Participants competed for the Royal Trophy presented by Her Royal Highness Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn, connecting the business and cultural worlds through applied language challenges.
According to Thai News Agency, the Faculty of Liberal Arts at Dhurakij Pundit University (DPU) organized this inaugural event, with contestants showcasing their language competencies through various real-world applications. Associate Professor Dr. Patthanan Petcherdchu, Vice President for Academic Affairs at DPU, presided over the event's opening ceremony. The competition featured activities such as live-streaming product sales, public speaking, and cultural booth design, engaging students in practical language use.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Pattanun emphasized the importance of language skills in the rapidly evolving global landscape. DPU has integrated AI into its language programs to enhance student skills for future business demands. The university also aims to develop international networks with language institutions abroad, fostering cross-cultural communication and collaboration.
Dr. Warit Limlawan, Dean of the Faculty of Liberal Arts, shared that 235 students from 61 schools participated, with 131 advancing to the finals. The competition included Business Chinese, Business English, Korean, and Japanese formats, judged by internal faculty and external experts from organizations like the Japan Foundation Bangkok and Korea Education Center, ensuring a professional and impartial assessment.
Feedback from judges highlighted the impressive linguistic potential of participants. The competition's diverse formats encouraged skills such as analytical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity. DPU plans to make this an annual national showcase for linguistic abilities, inviting organizations and private sector partners to join future events.
The competition's winner will receive a Royal Trophy, a 100% scholarship for an undergraduate degree at the Faculty of Liberal Arts, and a cash prize. Runners-up and honorable mentions will also receive scholarships, plaques, and cash awards, with full details provided for each language category's winners.
