Dr. Jetsada Urges Government To Monitor Energy Tycoons Amid Diesel Price Concerns

Bangkok: Dr. Jetsada Tonawanik, the Rak Chart Party's prime ministerial candidate, has expressed concern over the potential spike in diesel prices, warning that they could exceed 70 baht per liter if not properly managed. He advises the government to keep a close watch on energy tycoons to prevent hoarding and price manipulation.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Jetsada has highlighted the fragile state of Thailand's economy and energy sector, urging the public to be cautious with their spending, especially during the Songkran festival. He fears that without proper government intervention, a severe economic downturn could follow the festivities, affecting daily wage earners and those struggling financially.

Dr. Jetsada's discussions with employers have revealed a troubling trend in the labor market, where employers are reportedly relieved when employees resign, as it reduces their expenses. This situation poses a risk of unemployment for workers returning from holidays.

He criticized the government's current economic strategies, such as raising the public debt ceiling and implementing the "Half-Price Plus" project, as unsustainable and insufficient in addressing the root causes of economic hardship. Dr. Jetsada emphasized the need for effective austerity measures and policy prioritization to alleviate public suffering.

Furthermore, Dr. Jetsada questioned the transparency of the energy pricing structure and urged the government to investigate potential profiteering by "energy capital groups." He also highlighted external risk factors, such as the ongoing conflict between the United States and Iran, which could exacerbate the global energy crisis and impact Thailand directly.

Dr. Jetsada called on the government to stabilize diesel prices without resorting to taxpayer-funded subsidies, warning of dire consequences if prices reach 70 baht after Songkran.
