Bangkok: Dr. Soran confirms he will perform his duties as chairman of the NBTC (National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission) according to the law at the new meeting on August 5th, after the quorum failed to materialize.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Soran Boonbaichaiyapruk, Chairman of the NBTC, addressed concerns today at 10:45 AM regarding the failure of a scheduled NBTC meeting to proceed. He emphasized that the meeting was held as planned and instructed the secretariat to record all details. Despite a statement from the Selection Committee suggesting he had relinquished his right to the position, Dr. Soran contested this claim and is pursuing legal action with the Administrative Court, leaving the issue unresolved.

Dr. Soran clarified that any removal from office must adhere to Section 20, paragraph two, of the Frequency Spectrum Act, which mandates royal approval. He asserted his duty to continue performing his role until a royal decree officially removes him, as the NBTC is a constitutional body. He stressed the necessity of holding meetings to prevent damage and emphasized shared responsibility among the six committee members. The meeting was postponed after three members walked out, resulting in a lack of quorum, and is now set for August 5th or 6th.

Dr. Soran reiterated the importance of adhering to the Royal Decree, stating, "A decision is not above the Royal Decree. We must continue to perform our duties until a Royal Decree is issued to relieve us from our positions."

Earlier in the day, representatives from the Digital Television Association (Thailand) submitted a letter to Dr. Soran and the NBTC commissioners. The letter expressed concerns about the chairman's status and conduct, highlighting fears that ongoing legal debates about his qualifications could affect the legality of decisions made during the meeting.
