Bangkok: Dr. Warong Dejgitvigrom, leader of the Thai Bhakdi Party, has returned to Parliament after a 12-year hiatus with a clear intention to serve as an opposition member. He expressed his excitement about re-entering the political arena and emphasized the importance of maintaining honesty and integrity in government.

According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Warong reported to the Secretariat of the House of Representatives to confirm his party's role in the opposition. Despite the Thai Bhakdi Party securing only one parliamentary seat, Dr. Warong faced a tough decision as supporters were divided between joining the government or focusing on parliamentary oversight to combat corruption. Weighing his options over the past month, he decided that his single vote would be more effective in opposition, where he could focus on scrutinizing government actions and presenting the truth to the public.

Dr. Warong clarified that his decision was not influenced by the presence of the Pheu Thai Party in government. Although he campaigned on a platform against joining a Pheu Thai-led government, he realized that his limited power with one vote would not greatly impact governance. He remains open to cooperation with the Bhumjaithai Party if they approach him, but he believes his role is better suited to opposition work.

The Thai Bhakdi Party stands out as a small political party choosing not to join the government, a decision Dr. Warong attributes to the challenges of addressing corruption with limited resources. He expressed confidence in his ability to fulfill the public's expectations as an opposition member, a role he has long awaited.

As the opposition, Dr. Warong plans to allow the government, led by Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, the opportunity to govern effectively. However, he warned that any evidence of corruption or misconduct would be thoroughly investigated, with conclusions drawn by the National Anti-Corruption Commission or the courts. He stated that his opposition role would be discreet if the government acts with integrity, but he remains ready to act if dishonesty arises.

Dr. Warong also discussed the opposition's voting stance, indicating that they would avoid supporting the government except on matters of national importance. He expressed willingness to collaborate with the government on beneficial initiatives for the country.

Regarding cooperation with other opposition parties like the People's Party and the Democrat Party, Dr. Warong emphasized a loose association, allowing each party to independently scrutinize government actions. Confident in his abilities, he declared his readiness to fulfill his opposition duties effectively.

In a light-hearted moment, Dr. Warong showcased his MP identification card to reporters, likening the achievement to defeating a world champion. Responding to a reporter's suggestion, he humorously bit the card, drawing laughter from those present.
