Los angeles: Drake, still furious, has filed an appeal to reopen his lawsuit against Universal Music.
According to Thai News Agency, the ongoing feud between the renowned hip-hop and R and B artist Drake and Universal Music Group (UMG) has taken a new turn as Drake files an appeal to reopen his previously dismissed lawsuit. The artist, who recently engaged in a public spat with fellow rapper Kendrick Lamar, leading to the release of his diss track "Not Like Us" in 2024, is determined to revisit his legal battle with the record label.
In October 2025, a judge dismissed Drake's defamation lawsuit against UMG, where he sought damages for the label's promotion of his song "Not Like Us." The song contained controversial lyrics accusing Drake of having sexual relations with a minor, allegations he claims are false and detrimental to his reputation. In his latest move, Drake has submitted a 60-page petition asserting that the court's initial decision was both flawed and inaccurate.
The original ruling sided with UMG, stating that the lyrics were in the context of a rap battle, which inherently involves the exchange of insults. The court concluded that discerning listeners would not interpret the song "Not Like Us" as a factual account, leading to the dismissal of the case.
