Bangkok: The drama surrounding the commander of the 4th Army Region has eased, with all parties taking a step back to move forward with security efforts.

According to Thai News Agency, Associate Professor Dr. Wanwichit Boonproong, Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Political Science at Rangsit University, discussed the situation on the program "Share the News" on MCOT News FM 100.5. He mentioned that the overall atmosphere is beginning to ease after clarifications and apologies were given for potentially incomplete communication. However, he noted that some factual issues concerning educational institutions and religious instruction in the area remain and should be addressed openly to resolve misunderstandings.

Dr. Wanwichit highlighted that pressuring for a transfer might appear inappropriate to outsiders and could be exploited by ill-intentioned groups for leverage. He advised all parties to exercise caution, adopt an open-minded approach, and adhere to religious principles of forgiveness to mitigate long-term conflict potential.

In terms of security, Dr. Wanwichit pointed out the government's focus on security during election campaigns and its allocation of the 2027 security budget to enhance military capabilities. He also mentioned the pressure from Cambodia, which necessitates standing firm on sovereignty, implementing border control measures, and addressing scammer businesses potentially funding future threats.

Dr. Wanwichit emphasized the need for integrated efforts among agencies to address the southern border conflict, particularly for the Ministry of Education to oversee curricula while respecting religious traditions. Support for projects developing standardized religious personnel was also suggested to bridge understanding gaps.

The proposal for appointing a deputy prime minister for security affairs was put forward to oversee the situation and address siloed operations. Political parties in the area were urged to demonstrate tangible results in reducing violence instead of merely proposing ideas.

Dr. Wanwichit stressed that the Commander of the 4th Army Region should expedite investigations into important cases to ensure transparency, set clear timelines, and collaborate closely with the police to alleviate public doubts and prevent escalation.

He concluded that once apologies have been made and acknowledged, all parties must progress by communicating honestly and transparently to foster cooperation and maintain sustainable stability and security in the area.
