Bangkok: A 58-year-old man and his wife were inspecting their village water meter when a drug-addicted man from the same village in San Kamphaeng district, Chiang Mai, attacked them with a machete, inflicting head and body injuries. Villagers are terrified of the man, who is considered dangerous.
According to Thai News Agency, the head wound of 58-year-old Mr. Somsit was caused by Mr. Jongrak, who was hallucinating from drug use, using a machete approximately one foot long. This incident occurred in Ban Mai Village, Tambon Rong Wua Daeng, San Kamphaeng District, Chiang Mai Province on June 17, 2026.
Yesterday, Mr. Somsit and his wife, Mrs. Bualiam, gave statements to investigators at San Kamphaeng Police Station to press charges against Mr. Jongrak. Reporters spoke with Mr. Somsit and his wife. Mr. Somsit recounted that on the day of the incident, he and his wife were checking their water meter and talking with the assistant village headman when Mr. Jongrak suddenly approached, started shouting, and chased Mr. Somsit with a machete, inflicting a head wound. A scuffle ensued, during which Mr. Jongrak fled. The assistant village headman then called the police and rescue services, who took Mr. Somsit to Mae On Hospital. Doctors stitched his head wound with 5 stitches. Following the incident, police apprehended Mr. Jongrak for drug testing, which came back positive. Police followed standard procedures, but Mr. Jongrak, a drug-addicted individual, has since been released. Mr. Jongrak's behavior is known throughout the community as that of a dangerous individual, and they want authorities to take action before similar incidents occur again.
