Drug Suspect’s Desperate Escape into Canal Ends in Rescue

Nakhon si thammarat: A drug suspect fled from police in a canal in Tha Sala District, Nakhon Si Thammarat Province. The swift current swept him into bushes, forcing him to call for help.

According to Thai News Agency, heavy rain in Nakhon Si Thammarat remains a problem, with many areas requiring vigilance. However, a dramatic incident occurred at the animal killing canal in Tha Sala subdistrict, Tha Sala district, Nakhon Si Thammarat province. Police from the Anti-Human Trafficking Division, along with investigators from Region 8 and Tha Sala police station, rescued a drug suspect who was struggling in the water after he jumped into the swift-flowing canal to escape arrest. He was swept away by the bushes, losing all his strength and forcing him to call for help.

It was later learned that Mr. Phonwichai, 33, had committed an offense under the Narcotics Act and had also fled bail in a drug case, causing distress to the guarantor who had used the property as security. Police investigators were therefore contacted to track him down. They found him driving a car, so they approached him and called for him to stop, but he attempted to drive away, losing control of his car and crashing into a bridge railing before fleeing into a canal, where he called for help.
