Surin: A drunk Thai wife had an argument with her foreign husband before grabbing a bottle of gasoline and pouring it all over the room, setting it on fire, seriously injuring her husband.
According to Thai News Agency, at approximately 5:13 a.m., the Surin Rescue Center received a report about a fire and individuals injured with burns. The incident took place in a house in Mueang District, Surin Province, which was being used as a monthly rental dormitory. Firefighters managed to extinguish the flames, revealing significant damage to the room, with everything inside burnt and a half-empty bottle of gasoline found on the floor.
The injured person, identified as Mr. Krekola Tapani Johannes, a 65-year-old Swiss national, suffered severe burns covering approximately 50% of his body, particularly on the right side. A neighboring roommate revealed that the fire was started by Mr. Krekola’s wife, with whom he had been living for about three years. She reportedly had a habit of daily drinking and arguing with her husband.
On the day of the incident, following another argument, the intoxicated wife retrieved gasoline in a plastic bottle and poured it on the bed and clothes. As Mr. Krekola attempted to intervene, gasoline splashed over his body before his wife ignited the room, causing the fire to spread rapidly. Roommates evacuated the premises and notified the Surin Municipality fire department, subsequently aiding in rescuing the injured man.
As rescue workers assisted Mr. Krekola, his incoherent wife was observed nearby, expressing distress over her husband’s condition and fearing for his life. The Surin rescue team transported the injured man to Surin Hospital for treatment.
