Bangkok: Police have revealed that two officers from the Department of Special Investigation (DSI) demanded double the amount of money from those purchasing the right to be appointed as civil servants.

According to Thai News Agency, the actions of the two DSI officers, identified as Mr. Itthipol, also known as "Victor," a 49-year-old senior special case officer, and Mr. Anurak, or "Dr. Tor," a 46-year-old senior special investigator, have come to light. They admitted to transporting cash and demanding double payments from individuals seeking civil servant appointments. Police are preparing to expand the investigation, suspecting further involvement of other civil servants in the scheme.

Senior police officers from the Central Investigation Bureau disclosed that the DSI officers acted as intermediaries, facilitating cash transactions between clients and the main agent, known as "Sergeant Pichit." The officers would charge significantly higher fees for those wanting to secure government positions. For instance, while Sergeant Pichit charged 250,000 baht for a civil servant appointment, the DSI officers demanded an additional 250,000 baht, purportedly for "processing fees."

The investigation revealed that the operation was conducted entirely in cash, leaving no traceable bank transfers. However, authorities obtained vital evidence leading to the arrests, including audio recordings of LINE app conversations, photographs, dates, and other pertinent information. Police are now working on gathering more evidence and plan to extend the investigation to include other potentially involved individuals, suspecting that several government officials may be linked to this scheme.
