Bangkok: Volunteering for the people of Bangkok, Professor Dr. Duangrit Benjathikul Chairungruang is leading a team of dedicated individuals to field independent candidates for the Bangkok City Council. His vision is to "amend 100 regulations in one year, immediately amending 15 of them," strengthening the city's potential and addressing problems at their root.
According to Thai News Agency, Duangrit, who heads the team working on the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) council candidates, is spearheading efforts for the 2026 Bangkok local elections. Leveraging his leadership skills and extensive political experience, he has assembled a team of experts to reform existing rules and reset the council's standards to address urban problems sustainably. His focus is on amending BMA regulations to remove limitations and maximize benefits for residents.
The plan involves amending 100 outdated ordinances, starting with 15 immediately, and completing 220 within four years. This approach supports the Bangkok administration's goal to address the 311 city ordinances, of which many are outdated and hindering progress. The team aims to review and amend these regulations urgently, drafting new ones to keep pace with Bangkok's rapid changes.
The regulations will address various issues, including livelihoods, street vendors, transportation, parking, and clean air. Over their four-year term, the team plans to amend all 220 existing regulations and enact at least 50 new ones, laying a long-term roadmap for Bangkok's stability. This standardized system will prioritize residents' quality of life, ensuring future stability irrespective of future leadership.
Duangrit emphasizes the need for the council to be driven by data, transparency, and openness to scrutiny. He envisions a council where everyone can express their opinions, creating a political system truly belonging to the people of Bangkok.
