Trang: The Marine National Park Research and Study Center 3 (Trang Province) has released images of rare marine animals captured using drone technology. This survey, conducted at the mouth of Khlong Yong Ling, highlights the thriving marine life in the Andaman Sea.
According to Thai News Agency, the research center used drones on April 1st to monitor the dugong population in Yong Ling Canal mouth and Yong Lam Beach, both crucial conservation areas. The survey revealed two dugongs and a humpback dolphin, providing clear photo IDs of these marine animals.
The second dugong was identified by a white spot on the left side of its snout and two scratches on the right side of its head. Mr. Chutipong Polawat, head of the research center, noted that both dugongs have a Body Condition Score of 3/5, indicating moderate health, and their breathing rates show they are resting and foraging normally.
The survey benefited from excellent weather conditions, with clear skies and calm, crystal-clear waters, enabling close observation of the animals' behavior. The presence of these species is a positive sign of effective area management and community involvement in seagrass bed preservation.
