Bangkok: Supajee Suthamphan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, has reassured consumers regarding concerns over the quality of durians sold through live commerce streams. Supajee emphasized that there is no need to worry about the durian not matching its description, as the initiative is a strategic response to manage an anticipated surplus in durian production this year.
According to Thai News Agency, Supajee posted on her personal Facebook page about the proactive marketing plan that involves selling durians online via 'Live Commerce', a collaboration with influencers. This initiative aims to mitigate the 33% increase in durian production expected this year compared to last year. By employing live commerce, the Ministry of Commerce intends to swiftly distribute the produce both domestically and internationally, thereby preventing an oversupply issue. The ministry collaborates with various influencers, each bringing unique marketing strategies to the table, with no special support granted to any specific influencer.
Pimrypie, one of the influencers involved, is reportedly working to assist farmers by facilitating sales under mutually agreeable terms between sellers and buyers. Her promotional techniques might include specific conditions or timeframes, ensuring clarity and transparency in transactions.
Concerns regarding the product's quality matching its description have been noted, and the public's response will be monitored by regulatory agencies to uphold consumer confidence. The Ministry of Commerce assures that durian prices remain stable, with export grade AB priced at 135-150 baht per kilogram, grade C at 90-100 baht per kilogram, grade D at 70-80 baht per kilogram, and mixed grades at 125-130 baht per kilogram, subject to the quality of the produce.
Supajee concluded by underscoring the importance of this collaboration with influencers, which aims to efficiently manage the surplus and ensure that consumers receive quality produce promptly.
