Bangkok: On July 7, 2026, Earth will reach its farthest point from the sun, known as aphelion, at approximately 152,087,775 kilometers away. This astronomical event will occur at 00:30 Bangkok time, with the sun rising at 05:55 AM and setting at 18:49 PM the same day.
According to Thai News Agency, despite the considerable distance from the sun during aphelion, many might mistakenly associate this with winter. However, the Earth's seasons are not determined by its distance from the sun but by the tilt of its rotational axis. This tilt, around 23.5 degrees, influences the varying angles and durations of sunlight received by different regions, leading to seasonal changes.
During this period, the Northern Hemisphere experiences summer as it receives more sunlight and longer days, while the Southern Hemisphere undergoes winter due to reduced sunlight. In Thailand, although located in the Northern Hemisphere, the climate is primarily influenced by monsoons rather than the Earth's distance from the sun. Consequently, despite being farthest from the sun, Thailand experiences its rainy season during this time of year.
