Economic Development Committee Schedules May 1st Investigation into Prime Minister’s PN Ticket Issue

Bangkok: The Chairman of the Economic Development Committee, Mr. Sitthiphon Wibulthanakul, has marked May 1st as the date to delve into the PN ticket issue involving the Prime Minister. The investigation will seek input from the Revenue Department and the State Audit Office, with the possibility of exploring tax evasion aspects still under consideration.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Sitthiphon, a party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, has organized a meeting to examine the complaint related to transactions and tax payments concerning the purchase of shares valued at 4,434.5 million baht by Prime Minister Ms. Paethongtarn Shinawatra. The meeting is set for May 1 at 9:30 a.m. and will be conducted via electronic media. Key figures, including the Director-General of the Revenue Department, the Auditor-General, and Mr. Wiroj Lakkhanaadisorn, another party-list MP from the Prachachon Party, have been invited to contribute information.

Mr. Sitthiphon stated in an interview that the investigation stems from a complaint submitted by Mr. Wiroj and falls within the committee’s purview to foster transparency. The committee aims to verify the accuracy of the issues raised and assess their implications on public interests. The inclusion of the Revenue Department and the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) is intended to clarify whether the issues have led to a state revenue loss and explore possible remedial actions.

Regarding the potential tax evasion angle, Mr. Sitthiphon mentioned that the invited agencies are expected to address this question. The scope of the investigation could be expanded based on the information provided by the State Audit Office, which is tasked with assessing the situation and providing insights.

When queried about the possibility of inviting the Prime Minister for clarification, Mr. Sitthiphon noted that further examination of the facts is necessary before making such a decision.
