Economic Party to Launch Bangkok Governor Candidate with Initial ‘J’ on May 10

Bangkok: The Economic Party is set to announce its candidate for the Bangkok governor position, with the official launch scheduled for May 10th. The candidate is currently identified only by the initial "J," and the party is confident that the revelation will cause other parties to reconsider their positions.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Peerapol Kanokwalai, a party-list MP from the Economic Party, spoke on the candidacy for Bangkok Governor and City Council members, emphasizing the numerous unresolved issues plaguing the city. Traffic congestion, flooding, and the encroachment of foreigners taking local jobs are highlighted as significant challenges. Additionally, the party is addressing concerns about corruption in district offices and issues like garbage management. Despite these challenges, the Economic Party is optimistic about their chances, aiming to secure more than half of the City Council seats.

Mr. Peerapol confirmed that the party has approached a well-known figure-initials "J"-with experience relevant to Bangkok's public service but not a traditional politician. The party intends to keep the candidate's identity under wraps until the official announcement, expecting that this strategic move will bolster excitement and impact the political landscape. He assured that the candidates for both the governor and City Council positions are highly capable and not merely symbolic figures.

Ms. Angsana Niamvanichkul, another party-list MP from the Economic Party, mentioned that the revelation of their candidate's name might lead other parties to withdraw, underscoring the party's confidence in their chosen representative's appeal and potential impact on Bangkok's governance.
