Education Ministry Relaxes Boy Scout Uniform Regulations

Bangkok: The Minister of Education, Mr. Prasert Chantrawong, has announced that while the Boy Scout uniform will not be abolished, regulations concerning its procurement will be relaxed. Schools will be instructed through a circular to allow the wearing of scarves and hats with school or physical education uniforms. Those schools that ignore this directive and subsequently receive complaints will be held accountable.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Prasert clarified that the full procurement process for scout uniforms is no longer necessary, allowing for a more flexible approach. Students can now pair scarves and hats with their existing school and PE uniforms, except for honor guard scouts, who must maintain the full ceremonial attire. This adjustment does not necessitate legal amendments or Cabinet notifications, as it remains an internal ministry matter communicated to schools through relevant agencies such as the Office of Basic Education Commission, vocational schools, and private institutions.

Mr. Prasert emphasized that school directors have the delegated authority to implement these changes suitably. Should any school disregard the ministry's policy and face complaints, they will be expected to address the issue, given the ministry's clear stance on the matter.
