Bangkok: The Office of the Vocational Education Commission (OVEC) has partnered with the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA) to bolster the investment ecosystem and manpower development for special target industries within the Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC). This initiative aims to support advanced technology investments and foster research and development networks in the region.
According to Thai News Agency, Dr. Chula Sukmanop, Secretary-General of the Eastern Economic Corridor Policy Committee, and Dr. Surachai Sathikunarat, Director of the Office of the National Higher Education, Science, Research and Innovation Policy Council (NECTEC), have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU). The agreement focuses on monitoring technological advancements and enhancing policies on science, technology, and innovation within special target industries in the EEC.
Dr. Chula Sukmanop highlighted that the MOU outlines three primary activities: assessing potential industries in the EEC, promoting investment ecosystems, and developing databases for skilled labor. These efforts are designed to align educational institutions and the private sector with advanced technology investments, ultimately enhancing the workforce required for these industries.
The Office of the Higher Education Commission (OHEC) is committed to aligning manpower development with national needs. Utilizing NSTDA’s guidelines, they aim to support high-skilled manpower development in manufacturing and service sectors, particularly in New S-curve industries. Past initiatives have resulted in over 10,684 new jobs and training for 445,967 individuals, illustrating the potential for sustained job market growth in the EEC.
Dr. Surachai Sathikunarat stated that NSTDA’s mission includes setting human resource development policies for special industries, focusing on policy formulation, educational innovation, and integration of high-skilled human resources. The collaboration between EEC and NSTDA underscores a proactive approach to meeting the demands of the manufacturing and service sectors, with the EEC as a central hub for these efforts.
