Pathum thani: Eight police officers from the Pathum Thani Provincial Police have been suspended from duty as they face charges of extortion. The Commander of the Pathum Thani Provincial Police has revealed that the officers are under investigation for allegedly extorting money from a victim. This development has led to their temporary suspension while the legal process unfolds.

According to Thai News Agency, Police Major General Peerapol Chotikasetthian, the commander of the Pathum Thani Provincial Police, stated that investigators at Thanyaburi Police Station are set to charge the officers with abuse of power. Additionally, a civilian is implicated in the extortion of a married couple during a search of their residence. The accused are to be presented at the Criminal Court for Corruption and Misconduct Region 1 in Saraburi Province. Major General Peerapol has signed an order that suspends the officers pending further investigation.

Ekaphop, the founder of the "Sai Mai Must Survive" Facebook page, played a significant role by accompanying the victimized couple to file a witness protection request with the Department of Rights and Liberties Protection. This move came after reports of motorcycles and pickup trucks with unfamiliar license plates were seen near their home, causing the couple to fear for their safety and forcing them to stay elsewhere at night.
