Bangkok: “Ekanat” has dismissed the counter-statements made by “Xin Ke Yuan,” asserting that the points raised were unreasonable and emphasizing the need for intelligent legal action. Mr. Ekkanat Promphan, the Minister of Industry, has expressed confidence in dealing with the situation without concern over potential cabinet adjustments.
According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Ekkanat stated that he had reviewed the explanations provided by Xin Ke Yuan Steel Company Limited but found them lacking in valuable information. He noted that none of the issues raised addressed societal concerns, such as the repeated production of substandard products, hazardous industrial waste, the improvement of steel water quality, document forgery, and tax issues. Furthermore, Xin Ke Yuan’s accusation against the Iron and Steel Institute of Thailand regarding substandard testing equipment was dismissed as a serious yet unfounded claim. Mr. Ekkanat affirmed that the institute’s equipment meets international standards for testing and analyzing boron levels in steel products.
Mr. Ekkanat emphasized that ongoing press conferences contribute to public confusion and time wastage. He assured that these conferences would not impede the legal proceedings, and a more thorough investigation would be conducted to verify the correct acquisition of the TIS in 2003. He dismissed concerns about the news of potential pressure to remove him from the cabinet due to his involvement in the matter, stating that he remains unfazed. Mr. Ekkanat highlighted the intelligence of those involved and stressed the importance of using legal avenues and thorough document review to ensure accountability.
Regarding rumors of a cabinet reshuffle, Mr. Ekkanat mentioned he had not received any such indications.
