Ekniti Leads BOI Board to Establish World-Class Chip Design Base in Thailand

Bangkok: Minister Ekniti led a delegation of Board of Investment (BOI) representatives to visit and hold discussions with Analog Devices (Thailand) or ADI, a semiconductor company from the United States, at Amata City Industrial Estate in Chonburi province. The visit highlighted ADI's new factory, valued at over 19 billion baht, aiming for the first LEED Platinum certification in ADI's global manufacturing network. The project also aims to create 2,500 jobs for Thai personnel, reinforcing Thailand's potential as a regional hub for advanced semiconductor design and testing.

According to Thai News Agency, Mr. Narut Teodsathirasak, Secretary-General of the Board of Investment (BOI), revealed that on July 12, 2026, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, in his capacity as Chairman of the BOI Board, led the board members and BOI executives to visit the new factory of Analog Devices (Thailand) or ADI at Amata City Industrial Estate, Chonburi Province. The purpose of the visit was to monitor investment progress and discuss the direction of the global semiconductor industry. ADI's investment exemplifies a future industry driven by advanced technology and is a key element of the "third wave of investment" entering Thailand.

ADI is a market leader in specialty chips used for analog-to-digital conversion, sensor systems, and digital signal processing solutions for the automotive, telecommunications, aerospace, digital, energy, and medical industries. For its investment in Thailand, ADI began with a merger with Maxim Integrated Products in 2021 and has since decided to make a major investment expansion into the upstream semiconductor sector, totaling over 19 billion baht.

This expansion marks a significant milestone for ADI in elevating its investment base in Thailand to a more significant global level. It encompasses key activities such as establishing an IC and PCB Design center, expanding the production capacity of the wafer and integrated circuit testing center, creating a failure analysis and reliability lab, and conducting research and development of advanced semiconductor technologies. By 2025, ADI is projected to export products from Thailand worth over 98 billion baht, and this figure is projected to reach over 130 billion baht this year.

Currently, ADI employs over 1,300 Thai personnel, including more than 450 Thai researchers and engineers. The company plans to expand its workforce to 2,500 in the near future, adding another 500 engineers and 500 technicians. What sets ADI apart from other leading companies in Thailand is that its senior management team is entirely Thai, led by Mr. Wirat Sri-Amornkitkul, the company's Managing Director and President of the Thai Semiconductor Industry Association. This reflects the global technology company's confidence in the capabilities of Thai personnel in engineering, research and development, and advanced technology organizational management.

ADI places the highest priority on "personnel." It has developed a Semiconductor Engineering curriculum and built laboratories at King Mongkut's Institute of Technology Ladkrabang and King Mongkut's University of Technology North Bangkok. Furthermore, it collaborates with over 10 educational institutions nationwide through cooperative education programs, providing paid interns with benefits. This has led to an increase in the employment rate of graduates from 10% in 2023 to 53% in 2026, reflecting a clear career path for young professionals in the semiconductor industry.

'The fact that ADI, a global semiconductor leader, has decided to continuously expand its investment in Thailand, and continues to focus on developing advanced semiconductor personnel, along with establishing a large-scale chip design and testing center, proves that Thailand is not just a low-value-added manufacturing base, but is becoming a regional hub for advanced technology design and testing. This elevates Thailand's role in the semiconductor supply chain from midstream and downstream to the highest-value upstream sector. The BOI will continue to fully support the semiconductor industry to make the 'Made in Thailand Chips' goal a reality,' Mr. Narut said.
