Ekniti Leads Meeting to Enhance Financial Data Linkage and Prevent Suspicious Transactions

Bangkok: "Ekniti" chaired a meeting of the subcommittee on financial data linkage, focusing on both prevention and suppression of suspicious transactions, while also opening up opportunities for increased access to credit.

According to Thai News Agency, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Mr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas, led the second meeting of the Sub-Committee on Financial Data Linkage, also known as the "Connect The Dots" Committee, in 2026. The gathering, attended by relevant agencies, aimed at advancing the nation's financial data infrastructure and linkage system to achieve optimal efficiency in monitoring and investigating suspicious financial activities.

Before the meeting, Mr. Ekniti highlighted that financial data had previously been fragmented across different agencies. Banks, the Stock Exchange, and the Customs Department each held specific data, necessitating law enforcement to request information from multiple sources when suspicious transactions were detected. In response, the government initiated the Connect The Dots system in November 2015 to integrate data from various verification processes, Know Your Customer (KYC), behavioral analysis, and data linkage. This meeting aimed to evaluate the progress and discuss the establishment of a data exchange system (Data Bureau) with relevant agencies, such as the Anti-Money Laundering Office (AMLO), enforcement agencies, the Ministry of Digital Economy and Society, financial institutions (CAT), and the Ministry of Finance. The goal is to create a cohesive system structure utilizing technology to monitor financial data in Thailand effectively.

Beyond the primary objective of monitoring suspicious transactions, as directed by the Prime Minister, the database's development is expected to facilitate additional uses, including supporting greater public access to credit within the same data utilization framework.
