Bangkok:Central Thailand: Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ekniti Nitithanprapha, has convened a meeting to discuss flood management strategies for central Thailand, addressing public concerns and ensuring that the situation remains under control.

According to Thai News Agency, Ekniti, who also chairs the Committee on Flood and Drought Prevention and Mitigation in the Central Region, announced after the committee's second meeting of 2026 that a proactive plan has been developed. This initiative, in collaboration with the Meteorological Department and the Royal Irrigation Department, aims to address the anticipated increase in rainfall from September 25-27.

The government is focusing on managing water levels in the Chao Phraya, Tha Chin, and Mae Klong river basins, which are still at manageable levels despite rumors of impending major flooding. Ekniti emphasized that these rumors circulating on social media are unfounded.

To safeguard residents, Ekniti has instructed governors in the central region to remain prepared with equipment, evacuation plans, and effective communication strategies. He noted that if water flow surpasses 1,500 cubic meters per second, water will be redirected through branch canals as a precaution.

Additionally, an emergency fund of 100 million baht has been allocated for each region, approved by the Prime Minister, to ensure immediate assistance can be provided if necessary. This reserve will allow the committee to swiftly respond to any emerging crises, offering relief and support to affected communities.
