Bangkok: Ekniti Nitithanprapas, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, has referred the decision regarding the 400 billion baht loan emergency decree to the Constitutional Court, asserting that the government is prioritizing the country's energy transition. The decree authorizes the Ministry of Finance to borrow funds to address the ongoing energy crisis and facilitate the energy transition, with the outcome now dependent on the Constitutional Court's ruling.

According to Thai News Agency, Ekniti emphasized the government's responsibility to provide comprehensive and accurate information, highlighting Thailand's significant reliance on energy and the implications for economic security. He pointed out that the current account deficit is a reflection of the nation's dependence on oil, exacerbated by high global oil prices.

Ekniti acknowledged the uncertain outcome of geopolitical conflicts affecting global energy infrastructure, which have caused increased gasoline and diesel prices. He stressed that the government is considering all possible outcomes of the court's decision and is actively working with the private sector through the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee (JPPCC) to facilitate investments in the energy transition. He noted that the budget dedicated to this initiative is crucial for accelerating the transition and strengthening the Thai economy amid high oil prices and continued import needs.

Additionally, Ekniti announced his decision to launch a personal Facebook page, "Dr. Ekniti Nitithanprapas," as a platform to communicate the economic situation and encourage collaboration among all stakeholders.
